Video – Communication

Alberta Mental Health Association
We developed an interactive, video-assisted CD that was distributed to Alberta courts, solicitors, law enforcement agencies and mental health related agencies. It helped explain the preferred procedure for handling cases involved people who were caught up in the legal system due to mental issues. The “Diversity Project” CD contained five videos of under 4 minutes each that dealt with the most common situations encountered.

Central Memorial High School Choir
We produced a series of awards dinners for Superpages in cities across the country over several years. Each year, they got bigger and more elaborate. In the final year, we had heard of a choir that had sung “You Raise Me Up” on stage with Josh Groban. We asked them to sing it for us as we taped it. I always liked this. You could hear a pin drop when we played it in a large convention room. It was a nightmare to edit because over many takes, we had no way to keep the tempo exactly the same each time.

Husky Energy “Overview 2008”
Each year, we produce a program for the Husky Annual Meeting. This program then undergoes minor revisions and becomes a more generic program on the company – the Overview of the company’s operations for the year. Each year, we develop a visual theme that reflects the business climate. This is a portion of the 2008 version.

Husky Energy “Christmas”
Each year, we produce a program for the Husky year-end celebration. This program reviews all the ways that Husky has given back to the community during the year. For this program, we created a small, animated fairy that serves as a running visual theme and scene transition throughout the piece.

Greyhound Canada: “Orientation”
Orientation programs result in higher productivity. For new hires (and even old ones), communicating the company history and goals helps put everyone “on the same page.” This program featured both old and new footage of the Greyhound operation in Canada, along with lots and lots of passenger shots, to give all employees a clear snapshot of the company from coast to coast. This was produced on a shoestring budget and uses footage from a variety of sources.

Superpages: “The Matrix”
We produced a series of awards dinners for Superpages in cities across the country over several years. Each year, they got bigger and more elaborate. The theme changed each year and this one was based on the film, “The Matrix” and we wrote all the scripts for the evening, produced all the video, shot the live show and produced a promotional video for that for the next year. We also produced and directed the live evening event itself in multiple cities.

Superpages: “Happy Snaps”
We produced a series of awards dinners for Superpages in cities across the country over several years. Each year, they got bigger and more elaborate. The theme changed each year and this one was based upon the song, “You Raise Me Up,” made popular by Josh Groban. In the event industry, we jokingly call shots of company staff, “Happy Snaps” and these is a fairly regular element in any employee appreciation evening. This is, in our opinion, the most effective way to shoot them – using real video in slow motion.

SAP “NetWeaver Global Championship”
SAP is a market and technology leader in business management software. A sales unit of the company wanted a video to spark rivalry (in a fun way) amongst the international sales team. We used race footage combined with custom graphics over enhanced sound effects and a narration track. Scripting done by us.

Talisman: “Annual General Meeting”
Working closely with Rivard Communications, we edited the Annual General Meeting video for Talisman Energy. The program was produced using existing footage, with a mix of animated photos manipulated using Adobe After Effects. The opening logo animation, in this case, was supplied by the client. The interesting thing about this program is that is uses no narration.

Talisman “Lynx Project”
The Lynx pipeline project had been proposed for the Grande Cache area of Northern Alberta. The company wanted to be proactive and communicate the extent of the project and their concern for the environment before the project began. This video tells the story of the lengths at which the company planned to go to preserve the area and protect the existing wildlife and eco-structure.

City of Calgary “EMS”
Emergency Medical Services is one of the key municipally funded services in any city. This program described a typical “call,” using actors to fulfill the role of the “victim.” On camera interviews, actual shots of accidents and interviews with doctors were cut together to produce a very fast-moving compelling look into the day in the life of an EMS paramedic.
